Sudarsan Pattnaik, from Orissa,  has won the People's Choice prize for his work "Save Tree, Save the Future" at the World Cup of Sand Sculpting-2014 held in the Atlantic City, US.  He has participated in over 50 International championships and festivals around the World. This year he received the prestigious Padmashri award.

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD).  According to a 2012 World Health Organisation report, India faces a blood shortage of  3 million units.(Only 9 million units are collected annually, while the need is for 12 million units).

With a population of 1.2 billion, if only an additional 2 percent of Indians donated blood, the shortage could be addressed, say experts. Do register with NGOs in your city/area where you can donate blood, whenever there is a need.

Malavath Poorna, a 13 year-old girl from a small village in Andhra Pradesh, India became the youngest girl to climb Mount Everest. She and a team of Nepalese guides climbed the 29,035-foot mountain from the northern side in Tibet on May 25, 2014.

Sharing her experience, she said 'it was tough, but I did not want to be called a coward'. She believed in herself and this is her story of success, which is an inspiration to every one of us.

The expedition was sponsored by the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Educational Institution Society as part of its program to encourage and help underprivileged students in India.

Adalaj Stepwell in the village of Adalaj, Ahmedabad, Gujarat is a unique water building built in 15th century. The stepwell  The Adlaj stepwell is built in sand stone in Solanki architectural style and in five stories deep.

It is octagonal (8-sided polygon) in plan at the top, built on intricately carved large number of pillars. The temperature inside the well is said to be about five degrees lower than the outside hot summer temperatures.
