I recently lost most of my hearing and rekindled my photography obsession.
I am a father.

A picture can change the way you see the world.

I took this March of last year in Davenport, California. This one caused me to become a sunset chaser. Here I am nearly a year later.. still watching for places where the clouds meet the sun as the water meets the earth.

Hummingbird 101

First off: this is an Anna's Hummingbird.

You're going to need a fast shutter (I prefer not to use flash). For this one I pushed my ISO up a bit to gain shutter speed. 

Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1600)
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO Speed: 640

Most importantly: you're going to have to be in places where hummingbirds congregate. We have a local arboretum that I spend a decent amount of time studying these masters of flight. I even go so far as to often wear the same colors. 

For anyone who's owned birds as pets, you already know they recognize you just fine. I feel this works in the wild too. After repeated visits, I notice that the hummingbirds get fairly close to me.... sometimes so close it seems like they are going to land right on me.

I'm actually some distance from my hometown right now. My favorite place to get my motorhome serviced means a small road trip is underway.

I go out with camera each day from morning to evening... Then I'm so tired its bed time instead if edit time.

Chapter 2013, page 58 of 365.

The Path.

I've taken many....

There's been times in my life where I felt so disconnected, unloved and lost. When I look back on the years I realize it was during those times I either was on the wrong path or having a hard time accepting the one in front of me. Once I stopped thinking about what my life should look like, and put one foot in front of the other... things got good. Real good. 

Sticks and stones.

I get these grand ideas. "Can't everyone see if we just all thought like I see it, that the world would be a better place?" Um.... I have a word for this: its called selfish. Who am I to think my ideas are better than yours? There I was on my path, and along the way I would encounter rocks, mud, sticks... you name it. I could see that other path that I could have taken. It would be been much easier as it was level and free of debris. That didn't matter because I had a better idea in mind. I
