About 8 weeks ago Silver Lake Reflections

I reviewed a few of my earlier photographs from Silver Lake Provincial Park (near Hope, BC) a few days ago and had one of those "what was I thinking!?" moments regarding the processing.  This may not be my "final" edit of this image, but I do think it is a great improvement over my previous editing using the methods I employ now.

About 9 weeks ago Mazama Ridge Wildflowers

Summer wildflowers on Mazama Ridge with the Tatoosh Range in the background - in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington State, USA.  I made this photograph last year during the wildflower bloom at Rainier. You can see a few other photographs from the nearby Paradise area in my recent blog post here:  http://photoblog.mrussellphotography.com/mount-rainier-paradise/

Do you have any photographs you've made of mountains?  Post them on G+ for #mountainmonday ( +Mountain Monday )!  Just be sure to use the #MountainMonday  tag, and mentioning me by name also helps me find the posts through notifications.  I look forward to seeing your photos!

About 12 weeks ago Mount Rainier and Myrtle Falls

Last week I shared a photo of Myrtle Falls from my trip to Mount Rainier National Park in the summer of 2013.  This image shows both the falls and the mountain, a scene which I think is a bit more interesting than the falls alone.  More about my trip to the falls on my blog:

About 7 weeks ago The Tatoosh Range for Mountain Monday

This is a photograph I made on a hike up Mazama Ridge in Mount Rainier National Park last August.  I was lucky to get some good light, and find a lot of wildflowers to photograph.  The foreground wildflowers are Bell Mountain Heather, a few Lupines and some Paintbrush. The background is one of my favourite MRNP subjects - the Tatoosh Range.

A few more photos from Mazama Ridge can be found in my blog posts: http://photoblog.mrussellphotography.com/6122/rainier-wildflowers-mazama-ridge/

About 10 weeks ago Edith Creek Waterfall

Another photograph from the Paradise area of Mount Rainier National Park. On this evening after sunset here was a big cloud in the sky near Rainier that was lit up bright purple but I wasn’t able to find a composition that worked with it. I had the idea to shoot this creek's reflection to show the colour in the sky - but I was about 500m up the trail at the time.  Jogging down the trail with my tripod and gear caused some tourist curiosity to say the least, but I've learned that if I don't hustle the light has a mind of its own.  This 20 second exposure was one of only two that I had time to make (the second one was horizontal) before the lights were shut off and it was over for the night.

More images from the Paradise area, including this waterfall during the day: http://photoblog.mrussellphotography.com/mount-rainier-paradise/

About 1 week ago Mount Rainier's Shadow

I had seen a few photographs with the shadows of mountains at sunrise and sunset before, but hadn’t give it much thought in terms of finding this phenomenon myself. It was on Mazama Ridge in Mount Rainier National Park last August I saw this for the first time.  The dark blue in the sky is the shadow of Mount Rainier cast down towards Stevens Valley and the Cascade mountains to the east.  More photos from my hike to Mazama ridge here: http://photoblog.mrussellphotography.com/mazama-ridge-mount-rainier-np/

About 12 weeks ago Myrtle Falls in Mount Rainier NP

From last August - Myrtle Falls in Mount Rainier National Park.  On my way up the Skyline trail to photograph Mount Rainier at the Tatoosh Range I passed an 80 year old plus woman with a walker going up the paved trail.  She said she had always made this trip every year.  I guess a good view like this is always worth it.  :)

I have another photograph from this location that also has Mount Rainier in the background which you can see on my website: http://photoblog.mrussellphotography.com/myrtle-falls-mount-rainier-np/

A Rosa glauca species of rose (common name: Redleaf Rose or Red leaved Rose) in a backyard rose garden.  This species is an ornamental here in North America but is native to central and southern Europe.
