I am the host of the Mountain Monday theme here on G+.  Post your photos of Mountains on a Monday, tag your post with #mountainmonday and +tag me as the host (this helps me find your post if the tag search is acting up) to participate.  I try to +1 every Mountain Monday post I can find, and comment on as many as I can.  On Tuesday I often post a selection of Mountain Monday posts from the previous day.

About 4 weeks ago Mount Shuksan

A(nother) photograph of Mount Shuksan in the North Cascades of Washington State for Mountain Monday.  I made this one back in the fall of 2012 when conditions changed and suddenly there was nice light on the peak itself.

A bit more about this on my blog post: http://photoblog.mrussellphotography.com/picture-lake-mount-shuksan-sunset/

About 2 weeks ago Narada Falls

I made this photograph back in 2012 on one of those days in Mount Rainier National Park where the clouds conspire to hide the mountain from everyone.  Conditions like that are perfect for photographing waterfalls, however, so I headed to Narada Falls.  Check out my blog post below, I am also curious as to your reaction to my black and white conversion of this photograph - such things are still rather experimental for me at this point.

About 5 weeks ago Mount Rainier and Edith Creek

I made this photograph on my way up the Skyline Trail in Mount Rainier National Park.  A lot of the Lupines along Edith Creek were in bloom, and this made a nice foreground for Mount Rainier.

About 5 weeks ago Barred Owl (Strix varia)

I've learned that it can be a good idea to walk around with a longer lens on my camera when in the woods.  I wouldn't categorize myself as a wildlife photographer by any means, but I am an opportunist.  When this Barred Owl (Strix varia) landed in a tree right next to me I didn't have to switch lenses, I just had to raise my camera.  As this opportunity only presented itself for about 20 seconds, I wouldn't have been able to change lenses in time, and would probably have hastened the departure of the owl while doing so.  Even if my camera had been at home, I feel quite fortunate to have been this close to this owl, and to have it fly away just a few feet over my head, with complete silence.

About 7 weeks ago Mount Pierce

I was having some option paralysis in terms of what to post for today's Mountain Monday.  Since I just licensed this photograph it came to mind today so I am sharing it.  This is some fresh snow on Mount Pierce and the Chilliwack River in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.

About 1 week ago Mount Rainier Sunrise

A photograph I made early in the morning at Mount Rainier National Park last August.  This was one of those opportunities where those only out seeking "the shot" missed out completely on a morning of photography.  A bit more about this in my blog post:  http://photoblog.mrussellphotography.com/mount-rainier-sunrise/

About 6 weeks ago Mount Shuksan Alpenglow

A photograph of Mount Shuksan I made a few years ago.  This last bit of alpenglow was followed by one of the best instances of the "belt of venus/earth's shadow" I have seen.  Even on nights when the light has been "bad" and I don't wind up making photographs the 360° view from Artist Point is always worth it.

That Belt of Venus photo can be found in my image library here: http://mrussellphotography.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Mount-Baker-Snoqualmie-National-Forest-Photos/G0000uN6DWjvjQoQ/I0000iB5ZFU64suc

About 1 day ago Hope Mountain & Silver Lake

Today I'll reshare an image from Silver Lake Provincial Park from a few years ago.  Reformatting and reinstalling Windows today, so I'm not setup to share anything new just yet.  Often I hear photographers say that when a storm comes is the time to head out and photograph.  I somehow doubt those people are from coastal British Columbia or the PNW - the grey skies and rain can last for weeks!  Not a lot of quickly passing storms here.  This photograph, however, was a time when I was lucky and had driven through a whole day of rain in Manning Park heading towards Hope, BC.  Things cleared just as I got there and I was lucky to find these conditions in mid May.
