About 9 weeks ago Infrared at the Dog Park

I have always wanted to try out infrared photography, and so I decided that now was a good time! I have a IR-converted camera from +LensRentals.com, and took it out to the dog park with +Kodak Matiash this morning. I had a ton of fun with it and I'm seriously considering converting one of my own after my rental period is up. :)

Post-Processing: Edited using +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, +onOne Software, and +Adobe Photoshop. Color added back to Kodak using Photoshop.

Note: I'll post more information about this camera and my post-processing methods over on +Photofocus® in a few weeks.

About 10 weeks ago A Subtle Sunset

A few weeks before we moved from the South Bay back to Portland, I had one last chance to spend some time photographing in Santa Cruz with +Karen Hutton. In my time in California, I saw very few clouds in the sky, and this was the first time I saw them in Santa Cruz! While it's quite the subtle sunset, I was at least happy to have something in the sky. The blank-blue-nothingness of the South Bay sky is no good for landscape photography.

About 12 weeks ago Rowena Sunset

Today I have been back in Portland for one full week, we've lived in our house since Friday, and last night I went shooting with +Brian Matiash and +Brian Bonham for the first time in forever. It sure feels good to be home again. :)

About 10 weeks ago Latourell Falls

A few days back, +Brian Matiash and I had the pleasure of taking +Scott Kelby and +Brad Moore out to a waterfall, just outside of Portland. It was a beautiful day, and I was so happy to be at a waterfall again (my first time since moving back). Scott had his "list" of photos he still needed for a book he's finishing up, and we were able to help him cross at least one of those off of his list :)

Today I'm off to the DMV to get my driver's license and new plates. Hopefully I'll be back in time to watch +Brian Matiash LIVE on The Grid at 1pm PST! http://kelbyone.com/webcasts/thegrid/

About 4 weeks ago The Man and the Elephant

One of the most memorable experiences in Thailand during the trip with +The Giving Lens team was when we visited the elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai. The elephants here at the Ran Tong Elephant Rescue Center are treated kindly and with respect, and it was a blast watching them play in the water. I caught this photo just as we were heading back to the van.

About 8 weeks ago Sunrise at Trillium Lake

Yesterday I got up nice and early to drive up with +Brian Bonham and photograph the sunrise. We had some nice clouds, and even some pink just before the sun started to peek out. All in all it was a beautiful morning, and I can't wait to go back and do it again!

About 7 weeks ago Chocolate Tart

I found this recipe in a Bon Appetit cookbook I have sitting around, thought it was worth a shot. I'm not much of a baker, but I thought they turned out nicely! I think I have one left-over in the fridge waiting for me ... off to go have some dessert now. :)

About 8 weeks ago Plan B ...

This morning +Brian Matiash, +Brian Bonham & his son, Alex, and I got in the car and drove North into Washington in search of a waterfall I have been wanting to photograph. Not 10 miles from our intended location, Brian's car got stuck in the snow (yes, snow!) and after 30 minutes of digging him out (with the help of a friendly stranger with a shovel) we were forced to turn around and find something else to point our cameras at.

We were near a lot of white-water rafting spots, including these beautiful little falls, so we set up over a bridge and worked the scene. +Brian Matiash made his way down a path and he was positioned perfectly for a nice portrait with him doing what he loves. :)

Processed using +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and +onOne Software's Perfect Effects 8.

About 8 weeks ago The White Salmon River

What do you do when a group of white-water-rafters pass through your long-exposure spot? Well, you photograph them, that's what! :)

I was really hoping that they were going to brave the short (yet treacherous) drop to the left (not on camera), but they have a little path to go around it. Probably a safer bet, if you could see the drop. :) So, instead of only trying to photograph some fast-action rafters in the water, I wanted to see what would happen if I included them in my long exposure.
