Life, The Universe, & Everything

I’m a lover of life, a creature born from experience, and a collection of short stories. I have a hunger for adventure and a strong thirst for caffeine. I take shelter in the world, traveling from place to place, going with the flow and always striving to move forward - to progress - to learn - and to understand.

I fall in love with each place I visit and with each photograph, I try to share my vision with others so they can see things the way I do, full of color and emotion, depth and texture. I want to inspire people to travel for themselves, visit these beautiful places, and to fall in love with the beauty of the world.

Find out where I am and drop me a line. If you see me somewhere in the world, I'm always up for a cup of coffee.

Philosophy & Technique

I have always favored the artist over the tools and I truly believe that no technique can be wrong if it produces beautiful results. Whether it’s a hammer and chisel, a ke

About 6 weeks ago Along The Meguro River || Tokyo

With only a short (2 day) visit to Tokyo, I was very fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day to explore the tail end of Hanami and the (already falling) sakura bloom. Tokyo's cherry blossoms started to bloom about 2 weeks ahead of the average and I was a bit worried that I was going to miss it. Thankfully though, there were still plenty of great viewing areas to explore including the Meguro River.

I spent a couple hours wandering along the river, crossing all the little bridges, and searching for an area to set up my camera. With so many beautiful spots, it wasn't easy to choose but I eventually settled on the one you see here. As I stood there, the wind kicked up, producing strong gusts that caused thousands of cherry blossom petals to rain down all around me. Consequently, the wind also made photography more difficult with the fading light. Let’s just say that it was a frustratingly beautiful problem to have. ;)

About 3 weeks ago Roman Dreams || Italy

I know I say this often but Rome is absolutely one of my all time favorite cities. With a profound mixture of excitement and anticipation, each visit makes me feel like a kid on Christmas morning and with the gift of awesome weather, this visit was one of the best ones yet.

Ponte Sant'Angelo has long been one of my favorite photography spots in Rome and even though I've shot here many times, I've never seen the Tiber River level quite like this. It was absolutely perfect for capturing colorful reflections and combined with such beautiful clouds, it was an absolute joy to be a photographer.

Thank you Rome for the gift of such a beautiful moment of time.

About 1 day ago Rome By Night || Italy

A twilight view of Rome overlooking the Vatican from my favorite Roman Bridge, Ponte Sant'Angelo.

Over the years as a travel photographer, I've been fortunate enough to visit Rome many times and this is definitely one of my all time favorite views. There's just something special about The Eternal City and with beautiful views like this, it's no wonder I can't get enough.

About 5 weeks ago Bohemian Sky || Prague

I always enjoy going back through my past trips and Lightroom catalogs as it allows me to relive so many great moments in different locations all over the world. When I processed this photo, it was great to reminisce about watching these beautiful dramatic clouds slowly roll over Charles Bridge in Prague. While I was there that night, I knew this sky was special and it turned out to be a fantastic way to kick off the first of seven days exploring and photographing this Bohemian paradise. Someday soon, I hope to make a return visit to the fascinating Czech Republic. Until then, reliving memories through my photographs will have to do. :)

** Update: I'm now on tumblr! I'm happy to say that over the next few months I'll be starting some exciting new projects, including authoring some "on location" and behind the scenes videos. Tumblr will become the hub for many of the new posts, videos, and of course, "the moments between." You can fin

About 2 days ago I'm loving all the new features of Google+!

Among many new things for example, they've made the photo albums look even more amazing when you share them.

Nicely done Google, nicely done. :)

About 7 weeks ago Riomaggiore At Dusk || Cinque Terre

There are certain places in the world that make my heart sing. Places that seem to captivate each and every one of my senses, while my eyes enjoy a moment of pure visual harmony.

It's at those times when I almost forget to be a photographer. Fully wrapped up I the moment, I almost forget to click the shutter... Thankfully though, I always seem to snap out of it just long enough to take the shot. :)

About 10 weeks ago The Sleeping Dragon || Guilin, China

Enter the Reed Flute Cave, one of Guilin, China’s oldest and most popular attractions. The natural limestone formations are illuminated by an array of colorful lights that give it a wild and otherworldly feel. Throughout the interior, there are 70 ink inscriptions that can be dated as far back as 792 AD in the Tang Dynasty. That means people have been visiting this cave since ancient times. Although, I’m fairly confident the colored lights are a more modern addition.

It’s also worth noting that after spending 3 cold, overcast, and rainy weeks in southern China, I learned a very valuable photography tip. It never rains in a cave. ;)
