Life Is Light Photography

My world is a big ball of photographic and voiceover fun. Think of it as; Lenses and Light - meet Microphones, Words and Sound. Don't look so surprised! They actually play really well together. They each share a particular point of view. Tell stories. Express a unique 'signature'. What's not to love?
In one art form you hear them; as in the many commercials, narrations and announcements I've voiced for planes, trains, automobiles, television and radio… and for fabulous apps like MotionX-GPS Drive. (Cougar anyone?)  Or apps on your iPad helping you to dream, adventure and plan your next travels, like Stuck on Earth, created by Trey Ratcliff. I'm the voice of the guide over there.
The way I see it, our individual signature - our point of view or 'voice' - connects us. Is our heart speaking, through everything we do. After all, as my mother used to say "You can't hide who you really are." Wise woman.
Now then, photography. That's why I breathe, baby. Tha

About 13 weeks ago One Lovely Morning at Queenstown Harbor... Queenstown, NZ
She was so lovely in the morning, all blue-green sweetness. How does anyone wake up looking so refreshed?

About 4 weeks ago Sand Harbor Curves... Lake Tahoe, Nevada
The lady's got curves and a few other things going for her! Amazing that it took me so long to photograph her, but it did. I talk about it in a blog post today: http://goo.gl/hKb9q. I was really chicken licken for awhile about it all, which seems so silly now. I think we make our lives smaller when we avoid things that we're scared of. At least I know that's true for me. I'm glad I got over my fear of photographing iconic places like this. Because now I know for sure that just as there is no one exactly like me (or you!), this moment that I recorded right here here will never be repeated. Not ever. And I captured it, in my own way! That's the thing to remember when you approach an icon. Seize the moment and make it your own!

About 3 days ago Heart of Stone... Truckee River, Winter 2013
It is a cold, cold heart
That will freeze the world around it,
Stuck in time where nothing can move.
Except for the strain of discontent, like echoes of a distant scream.
-------------------------------------------
Hey, how about THAT ditty for a Thursday night? haha! This rock in the frozen river reminded me of that famous painting "The Scream" for some reason. The story got all dark and tortured and sci-fi.

That was fun.
Moving on now!

About 12 weeks ago The Windy Road to the Top of the World... Queenstown, NZ
Every day of our workshop had more awesome surprises than the last! We ended up at Deer Park Heights, which used to be open to the public, but is now decidedly not! +Trey Ratcliff has is ways, though - so there was our intrepid group of 20+, high atop a mountain overlooking Queenstown, amidst herds of red deer, miniature horses, alpacas - and buffalo. Yes, we saw a buffalo. A sight I believe +Scott Kublin still has nightmares about. teehee.

Awesomesauce.

About 12 weeks ago It Seemed Like A Dream... Truckee River, California
It was time to return. She always knew she would one day. But the entire concept still seemed so surreal now, given everything. She wondered if home could ever be the same.

About 13 weeks ago Back To One... on the road to Mt. Cook, New Zealand

We took a drive to Mt. Cook one day after the workshop ended. I've just loooooved our short road trips to amazing places here in New Zealand! I can't believe I head home tomorrow! Always along the way, we stop and explore intriguing places. +Trey Ratcliff +Curtis Simmons and I traipsed along this little riverlet for a bit - while +Scott Kublin worked the higher road area. It was just past sunset, when that lovely glow happens - and everything was awash with soft color. I love the smell of dusk. It's like all the flora and fauna has some kind of spritzing system that refreshes the air at regular intervals. A simple, but sublime moment!

About 1 week ago 2 Scoops of Peach Sorbet, Please... Big Bend, California
As Heaven and Earth tucked her in that night,
she knew she would sleep better than she had in a long, long time.

Ahhhh, this is one of my favorite places to shoot, under certain conditions. This is certainly one of them!! The other condition is when the river is... a river. Check out this general spot on July 4, 2011: http://goo.gl/OVIL2. That WAS an unusually large winter and this one was unusually sparse. But wow, what a difference a snowpack makes!

About 6 weeks ago Tahoe Rocks... Lake Tahoe, Calirfornia
Oh yes she does!

A few weeks ago, +Lisa Donchak paid us a visit and, world traveler that she is, I didn't want to disappoint. So I asked the sky gods to work some mid-day magic, because nothing is more boring than a huge expanse of blue sky over this ginormous lake. (Just ask +Brian Matiash).
And look what they gave us! We were overjoyed, as we scrambled through the rocks for a breathtaking array of compositions: each one punctuated with veritable arm movements made of clouds!
This made the choreographer in me very happy.
Thank you, sky gods!
