Project Glass

Getting technology out of the way

We started Project Glass to build technology that’s seamless, beautiful and empowering. To share the world through your eyes. To get answers and updates, instantly. To be there when you need it, and out of your way when you don’t.
We’re inviting a small group of Explorers to help us discover the full potential of Glass. Follow us on our journey, and help us shape the future.

About 12 weeks ago The results are in

A few weeks ago we revealed that we were seeking Explorers to help us shape the future of Glass. To do that, we asked people across Google+ and Twitter to tell us what they would do #ifihadglass . We could never have imagined such an enthusiastic response! There were so many creative, diverse, and (sometimes) crazy applications. We’ve certainly learned a lot through this whole process and it’s inspiring to hear how much passion there is for Glass.

Now for the really exciting bit... we know you’ve all been waiting patiently, which is why we’re pleased to announce that the results are in. Over the next few days we’ll be sending out invitations to our Explorer Program through Google+ and Twitter. So, keep a lookout for tweets and G+ posts from @projectglass and +Project Glass  to see if you’ve been invited.

We also want to call out that we received great applications from businesses. At the moment, our Explorer Program is only for individuals. However, we ar

About 4 weeks ago You told us what you would do #ifihadglass, now’s your chance to show us

Our Explorer Program started last year at our I/O conference when developers signed up to be the first people to try Glass. Last Tuesday, we finished inviting these developers to officially join the Explorer Program and we’re already seeing amazing things come from them. They've really embraced the Explorer spirit — the spirit of someone who’s ready to jump in, get their hands dirty and take on a challenge.

In February, we opened up the Explorer Program by asking people across Google+ and Twitter what they would do if they had Glass. We were looking for bold, creative individuals to become our next wave of Explorers — and wow, did we get them. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be slowly rolling out invitations to successful #ifihadglass applicants. If you were one of the successful applicants, please make sure you have +Project Glass in your Circles so we can send you a message.

We’re thrilled to be mov

About 9 weeks ago It’s been a bit more than a year since we announced Project Glass to the world. Since then, we’ve been working hard on our Explorer Editions and we’re seeing the first ones come off the production line. Yesterday was the first day that Explorers got to take Glass out into the real world. We’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, and it’s been both thrilling and surreal to watch it happen.

We’re currently notifying our Explorers who signed up at Google I/O 2012, and they’ll be receiving Glass in waves in the coming weeks. We’ve also accepted people who told us what they would do #ifihadglass, and we’ll start reaching out to them later on. If you are one of our Explorers: this process will take some time, so hang in there and thanks in advance for your patience.

We know there will be bumps in the road, and changes to make, but we’re excited by the ways our Explorers want to use this first version of Glass.

Here's to the next step.

About 2 weeks ago Picture Perfect

One of the great things about Glass is that the software automatically updates monthly, so Glass gets better every single month without you having to do a thing.

So, with that in mind... here are a couple of highlights from this month’s new hotness on Glass:

1. Better photos on Glass
Today we’re releasing new software for the camera on Glass. It captures a rapid sequence of shots behind the scenes every time you press the camera button which, when combined, gives you a better picture than what you would get with a single shot. So, what does this new software mean for your pictures? Two things: you no longer have to be afraid of the dark; it'll detect low light situations and automatically capture a brighter, sharper picture. It'll also automatically take HDR pictures in bright scenes. Best of all, this software works even in tough situations where there are moving subjects.

It’s these kinds of useful improvements that make pictures on

About 12 weeks ago With #ifihadglass  we set out to find a truly diverse group of Explorers, and that’s certainly what we’ve gotten. We need honest feedback from people who are not only enthralled and excited by Glass, but also people who are skeptical and critical of it. That said, it’s become clear that a few applications that don’t comply with our terms have slipped through the cracks, and we’re going to have to disqualify applications like these. As for the rest of you, please keep that feedback coming -- it’s all in the Explorer program spirit!

About 11 weeks ago We've had a few questions about whether all  #ifihadglass  invitations have been sent out and we wanted to let you know: we're still in the process of sending them and will continue to do so over the next few days. So, sit tight, maybe have a cup of tea, and we'll let you know when we've sent the last one.

About 6 weeks ago My Adventure Teaching with Glass

As a Glass Explorer, my goal is to transform the way I teach science, making every moment a teachable moment. With the help of +CERN and +Project Glass, I've begun pursuing my goal in the most spectacular way - teaching a class of physics students from halfway around the world while touring the Large Hadron Collider. I'm so excited to share this incredible adventure with you.

About 1 week ago One thing that makes Glass awesome is that you can just long press on the touchpad any time and speak to ask Google a question. It’s a super fast way to search which, it turns out, is pretty magical.

+Amanda Rosenberg and I decided to test out a bunch of cool searches and thought you guys would like 'em too - check it out.
